Religious Education (RE)
At Yew Tree Community School, our Religious Education curriculum follows the guidance set out in Oldham’s Locally Agreed Syllabus. Staff regularly attend network meetings and training to ensure they have a strong understanding of what high-quality RE looks like and how to deliver a curriculum that reflects both our local community and the wider world.
RE is a statutory subject, required under the Education Reform Acts (1988 and 1996). Unlike National Curriculum subjects, it is taught in line with the Oldham Locally Agreed Syllabus (Oldham SACRE). The most recent version of this syllabus comes into effect from September 2025.
Right to Withdraw
Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE without needing to provide a reason. If a child is withdrawn, the school will ensure they are supervised; however, we are not required to provide alternative teaching or additional resources.
